I'd really like to go to Australia and New Zealand, and I want to know what kind of ancient artifacts or museums there are because I want to convince my friend (who is an archeology and history nut) to come along.

Australia is full of aboriginal artefacts from 90,000 years of their activity in Australia. And we have alot of dinosaur stuff too. In Sydney there is the Australian Museum which has artifacts from Australia and overseas, Maritime Museum about Australian maritime stuff and many many more. You will love it.
Sydney has many more museums around the CBD such as the convict one at Hyde Park
